"When confronted with situations in which you are being asked to invest either your emotional energy, or your money, insist upon opening the box. Ask for proof. Demand it, and do not be put off if offense is taken and excuses offered - when someone is asking for you to commit something of yourself to help them, they forfeit their rights to anonymity and privacy.

Stand firm, and don’t be afraid to advocate for disclosure in public, encouraging others to do the same before they chip in. Realize that no one wants to be the first one to speak up, and the longer this goes on, the more profitable it is for the scammer."

This serve as a lesson for us...that every time we deal with people online..we have to know them well first.

I have so often encountered people online whose stories did not seem quite right and whose online friends would not hear a word against it. It does say one thing about human nature - people do want to believe each other. Sadly, it also exposes the other thing - someone is always willing to take advantage of that kindness.

These stories need to be compiled and publicised if for no other reason than to serve as an education for people new to the internet and for parents who don't worry enough about what their kids get up to online.
