Thoughtful and well written response to the last few days in the SEM industry by Andrew Goodman. Beyond the events, he addresses the ethics of Marty's technique and argues that this courageous "candy ass" may end up walking away with the clients.

Am I the only one bored by this?

I never ever thought I'd say this, but I long for the days when lolcats were where it was at!

@Mike

I know what you're saying, that was my first reaction when I saw the title. However I was really impressed with the writing and tone that Andrew put into this article. He managed to address the events but moved on to look at some of the issues in Marty's post itself. He didn't attack anyone and for me, the piece has a conciliatory feel to it. That's why I sphunn it.

I love to read Marty's stuff, but it looks like he forgot to take his meds or something the other day.  That being said, both Marty and Li are right (or at least make good points) on the whole "avatar" issue.  The problem is they have different primary goals for success in Social Media.

It looks really hard to "do social media right", or at least the way its zealots say it should be done, and take those, for the most part unmeasurable, results to the bank.  Whereas search engine rankings are very measurable and concrete.

The person that eventually bridges the gap between social media 'ethics' and SEO success will be very wealthy some day.

A beneficial post by Andrew, well written and cohesive from start to finish. Cheers for bringing it to the community Nick.

The Traffick post takes a very balanced, fair and measured outlook. Li Evans is actually someone I look up to in the industry and apologize for crossing the line. The SEOMoz post has been redone/re-posted (on SEOmoz) at my request. For the massive amount of participation I've engaged in over the last year, some sort of train wreck was inetivtable.

I meant no offense ask forgiveness for over exuberence in writing style.

Is desphinn broken? My depshinn comment was "how many people are going to rehash the same story?"

Totally agree @oldschool, we're covered this extensively but I still thought this post brought something new. I think you American's call it "closure" but it's definitely conciliatory. If people just walk away with this point in the article, "We have to remember to treat people with respect - it's OK to disagree." That would make it a worthwhile sphinn for me.

Not sphinning or desphinning, but please refer to my last blog post. The End.

Come on Aaron, that post deserves a link. I guess that's a form of closure and a little quicker to the point but we'd expect nothing less ;)
