ok replying to desphinn comments is weird

@sugarrae if it gets to the homepage it has more reach and the potential to reach a wider audience so hopefully some people will read it and get it?

make sense?

@sugarrae I never intended for this to be a slap in the face, I just thought since this was the audience that the post was intended for that, this is the audience that should see it. that they should get in on the conversation, either here or at your blog. If you truly don't want to see here I will gladly send to it the mod queue.

@streko the lulz were because this would likely cause alot of heated discussion because people don't like being called out when they are doing something that others might consider stupid or talentless.

Don't worry, the stupid and talentless have no idea who they are.

umm... you might want to drop the "f" bomb in the post above so the URL doesn't get filtered in safe search....

One excuse is as good as another. Sounds like somebody who did not get Sphinned enough to me is whining about why they don't like Sphinn. Next, topic please!

I am here to get entertained, get informed, and to learn more about Sphinning. This is just a whinner who cannot stand the heat in the kitchen.  This topic has been covered several times before.

You're right JohnHGohde... I am upset that I don't get Sphunn enough. If you would please remove your head from your ass, you'd see that I am a former Sphinn moderator, a current columnist for Search Engine Land, a former WMW mod, a speaker at SMX, SES and Pubcon. And I only say that to point out how truly ignorant and uninformed your comment was.

You're EXACTLY the type of sheep I am speaking of.

You're the person I'm speaking to.

Disagree with my opinion all you want - but have some actual BASIS and FACT to your argument.

@graywolf this is why I have no interest to save anyone.

Mods, delete if you must.

No need to delete anything Rae, you've raised fair points in your post and expressed a personal opinion in the comments.

Then again, this going Hot would kinda add to the whole drama Queen saga ;)

This 'community' lives in a goldfish bowl whilst the majority of the people working in search just get on with their lives: tiny little bits of nothing get blown into World War 3 whilst things that actually matter get ignored because they're not sexy/don't mention Plurk/aren't written by a big name/add as applicable.

I was just thinking how nice it had been to stay away for a while, and now a post explaining why I should stay away makes me want to hang around for a bit. Irony eh?

I think we've just officially turned a post railing against SEO drama into even more drama. I'm not going to Sphinn or Desphinn, just for my own sanity, and I can't claim I 100% agree with Rae's post (probably 82%), but it's hard not to get tired of all the BS that's been going on. I'm going outside now to try and enjoy the summer.

I do not recall amount of income from SEM as being a requirement for joining.  But, I do believe that name calling goes against the rules.  So, please get a grip.  It is only a Sphinn. Now, please deal with it.

Note the above as a world class beat-down.

I think that DrPete hit the nail on the head.

I love it. I've been posting on forums for the last 7 years and was about to say the hell with the forum posting myself.

I've talked with more SEO's that don't have a clue then I care to think about.

Wow.. at first I thought this post on Rae's blog was typical high quality rant (the literary genre, that is). I had no idea it was food for the this month's Sphin troll.

But then anything that gets Natasha to post is good by me! Sphunn for that reason!

As much as I agree with you on this rae, i still think (unfortunately) this sort of thing fuels the fire. if people are retarded enough to be immersed in the shitstorm then so be it. as you said, more pie for you nom nom.

Does that mean the discussion is over now thast we have a jeuvenile comment from a post-adolecent child, and a commetn about NAzis? If nbot, well FIRST! OK, I am all out.

That's exactly my point. Anyone who tuned into my web show the other day is likely getting a chuckle. I predicted this outcome from this post to a tee. Even with a desphinn campaign, I couldn't battle the sheepacity.

So, I'm away from Sphinn for a few months; come back, and all of a sudden it's eaten itself.

Bad times.

I'd like to point out that the vast majority of SEOs don't post here, and don't blog at all. It seems the "rockstar" bloggers think that they ARE the industry, when really they spend more time fostering their own reputation than they do actually practicing SEO.

are a couple of flamewars on sphinn really that big of a deal? happens in every online community ive ever participated in. par for the course.

but what does sphinn actually achieve? the only time i ever come over here is when i see someone rage-tweet and then come over for a hearty belly laugh and watch the fireworks ;).

I agree with you that Sphinn has been a body of stagnant water for top-X lists and regurgitated information for some time.

But I think it's communities like Sphinn--its popularity and seeming authority--that helps legitimize the concept of SEO for clients and companies that are unfamiliar.  It's good for the beginner, but to try and cull groundbreaking and original practice and theory from it is silly.  That is what conferences such as SES and SMX and Pubcon are for; a place for those of us who are tired of all the rehashed dribble, a workshop of sorts, and a platform for ideas that should inspire new practices of our own.

By many standards, I am brand new to the SEO, SEM industry, and i have got to say that everything in this article is exactly what i have been feeling ever since I started trolling the blogs and comments. Seriously, i got into SEO as a career move, but i feel like I have been transported back to High...no....wait, Middle School!
